Curse_of_Chucky,_Blu-ray_ArtI’ve been a lifelong genre and cult movie fan, and it seems like mainstream movie fans and critics do not always give these films the love they deserve. Thus my idea for Guilty Treasures, a podcast devoted to exploring horror, sci-fi, action, and cult movies in-depth, with a sense of reverence, and a sense of humor. For my first episode, I sat down to chat with Child’s Play/Chucky creator Don Mancini. He wrote all of the films and directed the last two, including the recent Curse Of Chucky, the sixth entry in the franchise which returned to the series’ dark, bloody roots after two comedic installments. Our conversation covered wide terrain: the roots of the series, its evolution, gay characters in slasher films, witnessing a drag queen performance with Child’s Play characters, Mancini’s efforts to break out of horror, and much more.
