DC Comics still hasn’t been able to find the synergy that drives Marvel’s big screen success, but when it comes to small screen animation their brand is king and they have found a unique in the DC Universe Animated Original Movie. These direct-to-DVD (and Blu-ray) features are not simply based not just on DC comic heroes but on specific creative comic book runs by some the genres most interesting talents. Past productions include Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, All-Star Superman, and Justice League: The New Frontier.
Their next release, set for release on Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital in February 2014, is Justice League: War, based on the 2012 graphic novel “Justice League: Origin” by Geoff Johns and Jim Lee. It’s a retelling of the birth of the ultimate superhero team and features a new round of voice actors playing the iconic heroes: Jason O’Mara (Batman), Michelle Monaghan (Wonder Woman), Alan Tudyk (Superman), Christopher Gorham (The Flash), Justin Kirk (Green Lantern), Sean Astin (Shazam), and Shemar Moore (Cyborg), with Steve Blum voicing the ubervillain Darkseid. The first trailer arrived today.
