Hugh Jackman has now played Wolverine in six films — seven, if you add in X-Men: Days of Future Past, which opens May 23, 2014 — and it looks like he’s going for broke with number eight.

Jackman and James Mangold, director of The Wolverine (2013), are in negotiations with Twentieth Century Fox for yet another installment featuring the adamantium-clawed mutant. The Wolverine has a worldwide gross of over $413 million, while X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009) did pretty well with $373 million. Judging by the 16 million views the trailer for X-Men: Days of Future Past has received since its release a week ago, there is a lot of excitement around yet another X-Men film, so why not another Wolverine one?

Deadline has the details: “Here’s where it is right now. Mangold is making a deal to write the treatment, with X-Men franchise matriarch Lauren Shuler Donner producing. The storyline is being kept under tight wraps.”

Will you see Jackman don the muttonchops again, or has the audience had enough of this mutant?
