12 Years a Slave12 Years a Slave is nominated for 9 Academy Awards this year and 20th Century Fox is banking on a little awards fever for its disc release on Tuesday, March 4, two days after the Oscars are handed out.

It’s already taken home a Golden Globe for “Best Motion Picture – Drama” and awards from numerous film critics groups and is currently enjoying the second life that big nominees often get after the nominees are announced.

The Blu-ray and DVD releases will be modest affairs, with the film accompanied by the featurettes “The Team” (about the artists who brought the story to the screen) and “The Score” (on the journey of Hans Zimmer’s dramatic score). The Blu-ray will feature the additional exclusive documentary featurette “A Historical Portrait,” which will include readings from Solomon Northrup’s book read by actor Chiwetel Ejiofor.

And if you can’t wait until March, it will be available for purchase in Digital HD form three weeks before disc on February 18.
