Hugh Jackman, no stranger to wearing large, dark beards in his roles, has signed on to play the villainous Blackbeard in Joe Wright’s forthcoming live-action Peter Pan film. Wright, best known for directing the excellent Atonement and Pride and Prejudice (and the not-so-excellent Anna Karenina) will helm this new take on the J.M. Barrie character which sees an as yet uncast Pan allied with Capt. Hook (Garrett Hedlund) against Jackman’s legendary pirate.
We know what you’re thinking, but sadly there’s little evidence to suggest that Robin Williams will reprise his role as the boy who would never grew up. Stay tuned to Cinephiled for news on who will be playing Pan in the film, slated for release in July of next year.
And what of the supposed half-dozen Peter Pan movies in various states of production? Will Wright’s entry shut down those projects?
What do you think about a story in which Pan and Capt. Hook are buddies? Let us know in the comments.
