It’s hard to believe that rock legend Jimi Hendrix would be turning 72 this year if his life hadn’t been tragically cut short in 1970 at the ridiculously young age of 27. Hendrix died only a year after his electrifying performance as the headliner at the Woodstock Music Festival. Various films over the years have tried to capture Hendrix’s magic, but none as effectively as the upcoming Jimi: All Is By My Side which will be released this fall. Written and directed by Academy Award-winner John Ridley (12 Years a Slave), the biopic stars André Benjamin (OutKast) as Jimi Hendrix and covers one tumultuous year in the musician’s life (1966-67) from his stint as an unknown guitarist in New York’s Cheetah Club to his early fame in the London music scene to his triumph at Monterey Pop. Jimi: All Is By My Side presents an intimate portrait of a sensitive young musician on the verge of becoming a superstar. The film also stars Hayley Atwell, Imogen Poots and Andrew Buckley.
